GEA#1: K-12 SCHOOLING CRITICAL REFLECTION PAPER (PAPER #2)
Instructions: In this paper, you will synthesize your own K-12 schooling experiences with course themes related to diversity, philosophy of education, identity, language, theories of learning, OR any other course themes (see menu of themes below).
- Write a 5-6 page paper based on your own K-12 School experiences
- Pick a set themes (3-4) (SEE MENU OF THEMES BELOW) that relate to your own K-12 experiences or to any educational experiences you have had.
- Write about your experience using relevant peer-reviewed to support your analysis. Connect concrete details to course themes. Explain how your details connect to the course themes.
Cite the course textbook (Nieto and Bode) and at least FOUR other academic articles found The paper should balance your personal K-12 narrative with academic sources to support your argument.
- Include a paragraph (300 words) in which you reflect on:
- How have the themes of multiculturalism and diversity made you think differently about your own K-12 experience?
- Format: Times New Roman, 12 point-font, double-spaced, 1-inch margins, no cover pager required,
include reference list.
This assignment assesses the following Gen Ed Student Learning Outcomes for Human and Cultural Diversity
- Analyze how diversity affects interactions with major societal institutions (such as health care, criminal justice, education, employment, voting, military) from contemporary and/or historical perspectives. (HCD Student Learning Outcome)
- Demonstrate the ability to see issues from the perspective(s) of other groups/cultures by describing the values and communication styles found in groups different from one’s own and the way in which those differences can affect styles of verbal and nonverbal communication. (HCD Student Learning Outcome).
